"Viva La Pasture!"

This is something we Organic Valley Dairy farmers often say! At Mallonee Farms we pasture our cows for seven months. During this time we move our fences twice daily so our cows can get lush forage after every milking.

Preserving Endangered Plants:
Kincaid's Lupine

At Mallonee Farms we are the home of Washington State's largest concentration of the endangered plant called "Kincaid's Lupine."

The Kincaid's Lupine is the host for the  "Fender's Blue Butterfly," which is an endangered species. In fact, this species of lupine is necessary for the butterfly to survive.

By pasturing the grasses, clovers and other plants we are able to allow the lupine to flourish.  Thus following biodiversity allows cows, lupines, butterfies and Mallonees to live in harmony.

This year's annual Lupine Pasture Walk will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Mallonee Farms. For information contact us at our e-mail address or click here.
